Ascension win 6th title

The Ascension Have Done It Again: Six Johnsons and Counting

By Staff Reporter

There is a new standard in the UMPL.

And once again, it belongs to the Ascension.

The Ascension have captured their sixth Johnson, completing a remarkable run that has seen them claim four consecutive titles. What began as one successful championship campaign has now developed into an era of sustained dominance, with the Ascension establishing themselves as the defining team of the Johnson.

Six championships.

Four straight.

And a résumé that continues to grow.

For a competition that has seen plenty of turnover at the top, the Ascension have been the one constant. Other teams have had their moments. The Nightmares have won championships. Hailstorm have won. Crackers have won. But the Ascension have repeatedly found their way back to the top.

And now they have done it for the fourth consecutive time.

From contenders to the standard

The Ascension’s history with the Johnson stretches back to the very beginning.

In Season 1, the Ascension announced themselves immediately, going a perfect 3–0 to claim their first championship. The Nightmares finished runner-up at 1–2, while Hailstorm went 0–2.

Season 2 brought the first setback. The Nightmares took the championship while the Ascension finished runner-up at 2–1. Rather than signaling the end of their run, however, it became part of a pattern that would define the Ascension for years: even when they didn’t win, they were almost always right there at the end.

Season 3 saw Hailstorm take the title with a 3–1 record, while the Ascension again finished runner-up, this time at 1–3 with a knockout.

In Season 4, Crackers captured the championship, while the Ascension once again reached the final stage and finished runner-up at 2–2 with two knockouts.

Four seasons into the Johnson, the Ascension already had a championship and three runner-up finishes.

Then everything changed.

The beginning of the dynasty

Season 5 was the turning point.

The Ascension exploded back to the top with a 5–1 record and four knockouts, taking the championship in emphatic fashion. Crackers finished runner-up at 4–2, while Hailstorm went 1–3 and the Nightmares struggled to a 0–4 finish.

The championship wasn’t simply another title for the Ascension.

It was the beginning of something much bigger.

The following season, the Nightmares reclaimed the championship with a 4–2 record and four knockouts. But even with the title slipping away, the Ascension remained firmly in the picture, finishing 3–1.

Then came Season 7.

The Ascension were back on top.

They finished 4–1 with three knockouts, defeating a field that included the Nightmares, Hailstorm and Crackers to capture another championship.

From there, the Ascension’s dominance stopped being a streak and started becoming an era.

They didn’t stop at the Johnson

What makes the Ascension’s current run particularly impressive is that their success hasn’t been limited to the traditional Johnson seasons.

At the Freshman Finale, the Ascension were perfect.

4–0. Three knockouts. Championship.

Hailstorm finished 1–2, the Nightmares went 2–3 with two knockouts, and Crackers finished 1–3.

Then came the Labor Day Classic, where the Ascension produced perhaps their most dominant performance yet.

They went 6–1.

They recorded five knockouts.

And they won the championship.

Hailstorm and the Nightmares both finished 1–2, while Crackers and Stars went 0–2. Killshots finished 2–2.

The Ascension had once again separated themselves from the field.

And they weren’t finished.

Lamoreaux belonged to the Ascension too

At the Lamoreaux Memorial, the Ascension once again reached the top.

This time they finished 4–1, with an incredible four knockouts, capturing yet another championship.

Killshots pushed them closely, finishing runner-up at 3–1 with three knockouts. Hailstorm went 2–2 with two knockouts, while the Nightmares finished 0–2.

But when the tournament ended, the result was familiar.

The Ascension were champions.

Again.

Six championships

That is ultimately what makes the current moment so significant.

The Ascension aren’t simply a team that has experienced a successful season. Their success has stretched across multiple eras of the competition.

They have won when the field was small.

They have won when the field expanded.

They have won against familiar rivals.

They have won against new challengers.

They have survived championship losses and returned to the top.

And now, they have put together four consecutive Johnson championships.

The numbers behind their run are staggering. Their championship seasons have included a perfect 3–0 campaign, a 5–1 season with four knockouts, a 4–1 season with three knockouts, and championship performances in the Freshman Finale, Labor Day Classic and Lamoreaux Memorial.

The Ascension have not simply accumulated trophies.

They have accumulated them consistently.

The Nightmares have challenged them. Hailstorm have challenged them. Crackers have challenged them. Killshots have pushed them. Yet each time the championship has been decided, the Ascension have continued to find a way back to the top.

And now there are six Johnson championships sitting in their trophy case.

The latest one also happens to be the fourth straight.

For everyone else, the goal is no longer simply to win the Johnson.

It is to stop the Ascension from winning it again.

Because at this point, the question isn’t whether the Ascension can reach the top.

They have made the top their home.

Six championships.

Four consecutive.

And the Ascension are still ascending.
